adding BALLS to Tele bridge pickup

Hi all,

I'v got a Broadcaster type Tele bridge pickup that I'm happy with in most respects, however for live use it doesn't have the low end balls of my humbucker guitars (to be expected).

Would adding a thicker base plate, or even two base plates give more chunk in the low end?

How about adding a second magnet? - i.e. literally just slapping a bar magnet on the bottom of the pickup for a stronger magnetic field.

These are just raw ideas that I had and would be cool to see if anyone has experience with them before I waste time taking my Tele to bits.

Maybe you can ask Tim. I can imagine the BG50-bridge would provide low end chunck, maybe he can rewire yours to these specs, or maybe he has ideas about an extra magnet and thicker baseplate.

Well, just put the Tele through some riffage with the Jet City JCA100HDM and there is certainly plenty of grunt in the bass and the top end has been rounded out - easy enough to add a bit more top end from the amp.

Been playing doomy riffs for the past half hour, so its all good - doom on a Tele eh, who'da thunk it.

For most applications, its probably too bassy so I'm not sure if a weaker magnet would be just the ticket or even something which makes the pickup slightly brighter (I've used an A5 bar, so maybe ceramic would be the ticket).  Taking off the bottom plate and leaving the extra magnet on may be the best compromise.
