New Pickup For PRS Tremonti
« on: December 20, 2011, 04:40:15 AM »
Hey guys, this is my first post here. I just got my first BKP last week and I loved it. I replaced the stock PRS #7 with a nailbomb in my PRS Singlecut. I play stuff like Staind, Chevelle, RED, Breaking Benjamin. I love the sound of it. I have since bought an aftermath for my Baritone and I am just waiting on it. I am a convert, haha. Now, I'm looking to maybe replace the tremonti pickup in my PRS tremonti. What I'm looking for is something very similar to a nailbomb, but slightly hotter. The painkiller doesn't seem to be my thing going by clips that I've heard in various places. Seems kinda scratchy in the high mids/highs. I was kinda leaning towards a Holydiver. Would this maybe get me where I'm wanting to be? Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help!

Hotter than a A-Bomb? The Holydiver is about as hot. If you want hotter, then C-Bomb or Miracle Man.

Miracle Man or Cold Sweat are what sprang to my mind, but they're both ceramic pickups rather than the alnico of the Nailbomb.

It depends what you mean by 'hotter' - fatter, thicker, brighter?

I love the a-bomb. It's plenty fat and thick. As a matter of fact after the first note I played I think I said "my god that's fat." There is nothing wrong with it. I guess I should have said something a little different than 'hotter.' I would like something just a little different flavor but still have that A-bomb character to it. Very open and organic sounding. Love it. Maybe slightly brighter? The problem I have with the tremonti pickup is that it's a tad boomy and muddy. Like I said, I thought about the painkiller, but there was just something that I've heard from clips that just wasn't for me. I may just throw in another A-Bomb. It is my favorite pickup that I've tried thus far. I just didn't necessarily want to have the same pickup in two similar guitars. Thanks.

Cool, thanks for the response. Only thing I'd be worried about is the amount of treble that it shows it has. Looks like a lot, but I'll listen to some sound clips and judge then. :good:

CS has a lot of treble, bite and crunch but it is not harsh.

I think a coldsweat or cbomb would work great-is it the SE model you have?
