Slightly belated New Cab Day.
« on: December 23, 2011, 10:27:56 AM »
First off, a huge thank you to Madsakre for loaning me the cash to pick this 'un up!

So, recently as some of you may know, my trusty Randall cab fried its speakers. That meant I was cab-less, and that's a horrid situation to be in. Thankfully, this one turned up used at a very fair price in my area:

It's a Marshall JCM800 1982 model cabinet, the 400w version. We used that exact model in the studio, when my band recorded our EP. That particular cab just sounded so good, I had to have one. Unfortunately, no matter how much I begged, the studio wouldn't let me buy theirs. Luckily, here I am six months later, and I finally have one! I for one LOVE the fact that it's so utterly banged up and worn. It even smells a bit funny! How's that for "authentic"?

Naturally, the sound is also nothing short of absolutely monstrous.

I like those drivers too  :D

Would be interested to try the 360w 320w version with G12-80 speakers - G12-65s with large magnets I understand.

afaik, those 1982 model cabs all came with the 80w Celestions, like these...

maybe your is a later version with 100w speakers - doesn't really matter in the end though, if it sounds good, it IS good.  I dig the fooked vibe as well  8)

btw, my 1x12 for home use has one of those old 80w speakers in and it sounds monstrous - bet a 4x12 with them would be like Armageddon, ha ha.

a bit of googling reveals the time line on the 80w and 100w speakers in the 1982 cabs...

1982A, 320w ('81-'82)
1982A, 400w ('82-'87)

It says 400w on the plaque, so it must be from '82 onwards then :)
