GARY MOORE 59 LES PAUL EARLY 90'S TONE QUERY

I was wondering what pickups would be best to get closest to Gary's tone on the Still Got The Blues and After Hours albums i.e. his non out of phase '59 Les Paul (not his Peter Green one)? I believe these were standard PAF's (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDy5yc8-cwE)

I am thinking "The Mule" is the way to go from clips and youtube videos but wondering how these would cope under higher gain levels i.e. OD box boosted Marshall/Soldano tones as Gary did.

Are the Mules wax potted? If not does this represent a big problem when using higher gain? 

I am not a metal player (I like my mids) and not chasing Gary's 80's metal tones but the classic rock/heavy blues stuff.

Also how different are the PG Blues and Mules when running in their standard bridge or neck positions? (that mid position out of phase may have it uses)....

I have a set of Mules in a LP and use it with what I'd refer to as a 'vintage high gain' sort of tone and they don't squeal at all.

I've always had good results with the Mules for Garys sort of tone, so aslong as your amps upto it then you should be fine  :)

The Mules are potted, unless you order them unpotted. Never had any microphonic problems or squeals with my BKP's. They handle gain very well. I have potted Mules and they're as close as you can get to a 59 PAF-tone, but they are versatile and cover a lot of ground. They're are articulate, touchsensitive, clean up great and handle loads of gain well. Global moderator Nolly uses them even for metal. I don't have experience with the out of phase wiring.
