Teuchtar is used to describe a sort of highland country bumpkin type. A bit like colchie (sp?) from southern Ireland.

Essentially it's used by Glaswegians and folk from Edinburgh to mean anyone from a (perceived) rural area, but principally highlanders yeah, especially with regards to accent.
I have no friends that are neds. Mind you, I don't imagine many folks have friends that
they consider to be neds. My pals from Inverness and round about would rather take exception to their accent being taken as synonymous to a forced one used by bams. Not that they'd encounter it often, I've never, ever heard someone use teuchter in that way until this thread.
