Pickups for RG1570
« on: February 01, 2006, 08:49:44 AM »
Need some pickups for my new 1570.  I'm mostly interested in playing thrash/speed metal, and death/black metal, basically metal.

Bands like:
Mercyful Fate/King Diamond
Death
Candlemass
Vader
Enslaved

You get the picture.

The amp I'm using is a Peavey XXX Super 40 EFX Combo.

Thanks!

I haven't received my BKP's yet but you're like to get 2 responses: for Black metal the Warpig and for Thrash/speed metal the Miracle Man.  Both sound killer to me.  Take a listen in the players section of the forum.  If you ever play clean get the Warpig as apparently it cleans up nice, which is a real feat for how heavy it gets.

I'd like to play some lead as well, practice solos and what not. How much will this affect my choice?

I know it's kind of futile to want to get every type of metal tone (especially since the ideal tone was achieved in a studio setting) out of a single guitar and amp, but I'd just like some versatility.

Is a bridge pickup enough or should I change out the neck too?

Both are killer pickups for rhythm and lead.

The MM is the tighter, but that doesnt mean to say the pig isnt tight: its is, very much so.

I would go for a ceramic warpig: OUt of the bands you mention I know death and vader very well and the others not at all. You havent said much about cleans, so I assume its not important to you, and the miracle man is a little sharp for bands like vader, great for death. The ceramic pig should get you in between: a very powerfull, very heavy pickup with a tighter bass and sharper treble than A5 but not as sharp as the MM (I wouldnt go for A5 for the sounds in there that I know). Straight up MM would be my second choice, and EQ it accordingly.

Hope that helps.

Cleans once and awhile, but not a priority.  Thanks for the advice guys. If anyone else wants to chime in feel free.

I'd go for a Miracle Man. Good 80's metal sound.
