I'm new to the board. I recently purchased my first set of BKP pickups - Black Dogs from Nick at The Axe Palace. He's a great guy and his cutomer service is second to none. They're in a Carvin CT624 (Similar to PRS 24). It has a mahogany body, maple top, and ebony fret board. I play through a Splawn Quick Rod with a 2x12 cab with small block speakers. I am strictly a "bedroom" player. My tastes run from 60's, 70's, and 80's classic rock to some higher gain choices (Sabbath, Judas Priest, UFO).
While I found the clarity and definition of the Black Dogs to be fantastic I find that they're just not "hot" enough for the range of music that I play - too PAF sounding. The original pups I replaced in the Carvin are 13.6k Ohms and, while not on par with the BKP's, were actually surprisingly good pickups. I'm looking for a more liquid crunch and gain sound from the bridge - higher output for that 80's UFO, Scorpions, Def Leppard sound while still channeling my 70's Alcie Cooper, Deep Purple, and Kiss . I'm 53 years old and am not into extreme metal.
The problem is that ALL the BKP pups sound great! After listening to some clips from the site I find I'm drawn to the Rebel Yell, Crawler, and Holy Diver. Any suggestions from the board will be welcomed and appreciated. Although I'm a 53 year old math teacher. I still like to rock!
