Tele bridge p/u in a Strat
« on: February 02, 2006, 10:14:22 AM »
Hi

Just wondered if anyone had any experience fitting a Tele bridge pickup into a Strat?

I realise there will be a bit of routing involved. And that Strats have a different offset angle to Teles. Any other issues people have encountered?

There's a few companies sell soundalikes in Strat covers but I would kind of prefer it to look like what it is!

Harmonic Design sell one that still looks like a Tele and apparently just has a bit shaved off the baseplate or whatever to make it fit.  They even claim the poles line up better than the Strat p/u!  Which I can believe as they don't line up well on my Strat currently.

Love to hear from anyone who's tried this...

You'll need a new pickguard. A Tele pickup has three mounting srews. Reverend used to make a guitar with a Tele bridge pickup and two strat pickups. the Avenger T.

I knew it was a good idea!

Besides... I'll need a new pickguard anyway for what I'm planning....

Thats one cool looking guitar AND they've solved the cr@p Strat bridge pickup problem

I personally love Bigsbys & have toyed with putting one on my Les Paul in the past.

Bigsbys do look cool on retro guitars.  I dig that big white beast the guy in Calexico plays -- an old Airline, I think.  There's a company that makes pretty replicas of those for quite reasonable prices .... Eastwood, I think.  Oughta get one some day to indulge my Mexican Spaghetti Western fantasies :)

Richard Thompson's custom made 'Ferringtonocaster' has a P90 neck, strat middle and a telecaster bridge - he can get some cool sounds out of that combo:

been thinking along those lines, although a P90 would presumably overpower the other two somewhat and it would be hard to get a volume balance when changing between pickups

I'm still not convinced about the Bigsby...

Nah - Leo's original system kicks all others out of existence - so carve a great big whole in your guitar kids  :)
