Best Pick up for my US DBZ Bolero?
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:28:33 AM »
Looking to get some new Pick ups for my Bolero, thought about getting some bill and beck L500XL and 500R but I've heard that the MM set is just the same but more precise and clear.

Basically want something Heavy, not super loose a little tight with a good clean tone. Can anyone help?

Spec's on Bolero..

Mahogany neck and body, Thick maple top, Ebony Fret board.

Thanks for the help,

-Peter

I think I said that but that comment was limited to the bridge pickup. Never played a Miracle Man neck model. The L500XL and 500R are just very very loud, more so than most people would ever need.

Miracle Man bridge fits "heavy" exactly, "not super loose a little tight" depending on what your definition of "tight"/"loose" is. It is not really known for clean tone. If you want to combine all these attributes (almost) equally, then the Alnico Nailbomb could be your pickup.

Cheers Stephan

a nailbomb set would be a much better fit than a BL set, in my opinion
maybe with a ceramic bridge pickup, if you want more aggressiveness
I had the alnico version in my 73 les paul custom and it felt at least just as aggressive as the miracle man, cold sweat and aftermath, but more versatile than all of them
it really surprised me in output, big but tight low end punch, loudness and high end edge for an alnico pickup
it was one of the very few pickups I ever had to get further from the strings
