Yngwie Stratocaster pups
« on: February 04, 2012, 06:31:48 PM »
I have  an Yngwie strat (without bullet truss) that has the stock DiMarzio pickups in it. Considering a set of Trilogies for this one. My experience with BKP is that they will sound much better than stock hands down, but the Dimarzio are of course noiseless which is a real bonus when recording with a computer. No 60 cycle hum

Has anyone done any recording with these, and if so how do you find them for noise? Also any thoughts on the stock vs Trilogy pros and cons would be appreciated. Thanks  :)

You've got to remember that Yngwie's Dimarzio (now Duncan) pickups are completely different to BKP Trilogy Suites. They have a completely different sound. I'd say the Duncans are more in the vacinity of Sinners. With the Duncans, Yngwie wanted an all out, completely powerful, heavy pickup, as to say compared to the Dimarzio HS Series which had a much cleaner tone. You can tell if you compare his earlier recordings to the songs he writes now.

If you want to go for that more traditional Yngwie tone from the 80s-early90s, I'd go with something slightly less output than the Trilogies. If you want to go for his modern tone, go for Sinners. But if you lay his music, but want to get ya own unique tone, then definitely go for the Trilogies :)

Thanks for info much appreciated. I'm also considering the benefits of the DiMarzio pickups being noiseless. That's always nice when recording. Tough to beat BKP tone though :)
