Studio monitors for Axe-fx/Pod HD Pro?
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:00:32 PM »
Hi :)

Im getting tired of using headphones all the time. I've started to think about aquiring myself a proper pair of studio monitors. When i use my pc speakers, the sound's dull and dead.

I need some studio monitors with the same audio quality as my Sennheiser HD 215's. Pristine, punchy tones. Not too much color to the sound. Just loads of punch and liveliness.

And im kinda on a budget, so dont reccomend a pair which costs as much as 2 4x12 cabs :S

Good monitors make cabs look cheap ;)

Yamaha HS50s or 80s would have to be the stock recommendation based on word of mouth and opinions I'm regurgitating in saying that. I use adams, (A7s and sub8) and could recommend the ones I use wholeheartedly and if the family sound holds up and the specs dont lie, I'd say that a smaller set with a few hz off the bottom end would be great (and may even be better in a small room)

Then, room treatment ;) Its not going to do you nearly as much good as it can without at least some bass traps and absorption at first reflection points.

I can't recommend KRK enough. I have the KRK Rockit RP5 G2 and they're amazing. And the price is bloody brilliant. I use a Pod HD through them. here's a review.

Also here a page recommending all different monitors

But I'd say go for the KRK's :)

I use Alesis M1 Active 520s.  Am very happy with them. Review and comparisons here:

I use Wharfdale Diamond 10's , which to my ears, do the business and for less than a 100 quid, though the size and shape of your room will add it's own acoustics .

+ 1 to the KRK recommendation. They are by far the best monitors available in their price bracket, punching way above their weight.

I've got a pair of Rokit 8's and can safely say they square up against monitors over double them in price. I've used KRKs through both an Axe Fx 2 and an HD Pro....great monitors!  :D

i'd recomend krk rokit 8's or yamaha hs80's (i myself would go for the yamaha)

i got TR5's from Event and while they're ok for the money, i don't like them as much anymore since they have a low of drawbacks in the lower mids and overall clarity

and as MDV said .. couple of bass traps AND the wall behind the monitors has to be non reflective. then you'll have a pretty nice setup.
