NGD: LTD Content
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:48:28 PM »
Hey guys.

Just thought I'd post a pic of a guitar I picked up today:

After I took redundancy from my job on Christmas Eve last year due to years of breakdowns etc I thought I'd treat myself

I'm actually really enjoying the EMGs too, makes a nice change of pace from what I usually use.

EDIT: Just realised I didn't actually put what it was for those that may not know  It's an LTD EC 401. Far Eastern made somewhere around middle of the range I think. Comes stock with EMG 81 (b)/60 (n) and Earvana nut.

Nice! I was looking at these.

I had a black EC-1000 Ltd Deluxe back when they first came out, imported it from the States.

Always regretted selling it on and i fancy another.. this model is also appealing. What is the neck like?

I'm really into the Esp Eclipse II Vintage Black.  The ones that I played where really nice.  I had an LTD-1000 deluxe in the silver burst for about a week.  It was cool, but I sold it.  Played like butter.  Allot of the Korean built guitars that I have played, play pretty well, and they seemed consistent.

Cheers guys!

I'm hopefully throwing it through the Splawn tomorrow so will be able to post back in more detail about tones etc.

As for playability, I'm really rather impressed! Without sounding snobby with it being Indonesian made I was expecting having to take it for a setup pretty much straight away but I'm not really feeling the need.

1 thing I may do though is go upto 11s on it as I seem to be overbending the 10s, even though I use them on all my other guitars in standard tuning and don't have that issue.

What is the neck like?

It's 43mm wide if I recall, and it does seem quite narrow compared to my LP Standard or my CU22. I'm getting used to it though.

As for thickness I'd put it on the slightly chubbier side of thin. It's thinner than a 60s carve LP neck, but not as thin as the neck on my Ibanez S470.

Nice one Craig, looks just as good here as t'other place!  8)

Cheers Don! Thought I'd might as well post it on the only 2 forums I go on  8)

Thanks. I've pretty much always been a LP player, so I fancied something in a similar vein but a bit different. Hence going with actives too.

Nice axe! I think everybody should have one axe with EMGs - they are definitely a different animal, but you grow used to them over time.

BTW I think ESP uses 42mm nut width most of the time; not sure if the LTD's are the same. To be honest I don't notice a difference to my Gibsons. The thickness of the neck though definitely makes a difference.

I must've read somewhere that the nut wid of my LTD is 43 mm, as I haven't measured it

It does feel narrower than my Gibson and Tokai LPs though.
