Congrats on the new purchase. Looks good to me. White guitars always looks sexy. Don't know about the EMGs, but I have never owned a guitar with active pickups so I wouldn't really know.

Are you gonna BKP it?

Nah, I don't think so. I pretty much have everything from the BKP range that interests me. I have 15 other guitars with BKPs so I'm covered for the most part

Nice one- I like the clean lines of that guitar. They always look great under stage lighting.

Yeah, I was going to comment on the clean lines... but 38th beat me to it!

Nice one :D

Cheers!

I tend to not notice stuff like that tbh, I don't have that great an eye for detail I guess  :?

Thanks!

This is the 1st guitar I've owned that has EMGs too. I've used EMG SAs (I think) Strat pickups before and liked them, but I had very limited experience of the humbuckers.

After putting the guitar through it's paces for an hour last night I really don't know why EMGs have such a bad reputation with anyone that doesn't play metal. Yeah the 81 in the bridge is a little bland and brittle clean, but then again so is a Miracle Man. The 60 in the neck has a really nice clean tone when mixed with the 81 in the bridge. The neck alone was a little boomy for cleans lower down the neck, but really good for overdriven solos and single note stuff.

I think it's just that they do their "EMG thing" and you either like it or you don't - or you like it for a while then get tired of it.

Whenever I've tried them (not for a long time now) I really liked the sheer power of the things for a while, but I just got fed up of them very quickly.  So much so that I even sold a guitar I really liked instead of just taking the EMGs out - and I've been kicking myself ever since.

As this is the only set of EMG humbuckers I've spent any time with I can't say if they'd sound the same in every guitar, or if they let much of the guitars natural tone through. I know what you mean though.

Maybe because I use other guitars with MMs, NBs, HDs etc I don't seem to find them anymore powerful than those for example.

What guitar did you have yours in?

They spent time in various guitars - a home-made Superstrat, my Hamer Special and finally my Hamer Vector, which was the one I sold.  :(

I think there's some truth in the idea that they impose their own personality on the guitar, but it must make some difference what they're fitted in.

Of the ones I tried, I think I liked the 81 and 89 best.  The SAs were pretty ropey and sounded nothing like "proper" single-coils.  And I couldn't see the appeal of the 60, for me it's too bright as a neck pickup.  If I was buying some now I'd go for an 81/85 set - it would be quite cool to have one "EMG guitar".  :)

I've always been quite curious about Hamer guitars myself. I've never really come across any other than the odd 1 to try out though.

It's strange you say you found the 60 too bright in the neck, I thought it was a bit too boomy on the lower notes myself!

Well, it was a long time ago!    I certainly remember not being able to get the kind of warm, singing neck pickup tone I like.
