I have a swampash strat. It's definitely brigther and more percussive then my mahogany bolt-on St. Blues.

This puzzles me quite a bit too. My Swamp Ash Tele is bar none the brightest-sounding guitar I've ever owned.

Really depends on the particular piece of wood and the neck it's paired with. My swamp ash Tele is bright but my PRS-style swamp ash guitar is dark.

I remember a couple friends that owned the gibson voodoo sg and they claimed their guitars were quite dark sounding
