Mississippi Queen in Epi les Paul Bridge, Mule in neck?
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:38:32 PM »
Hi Guys,

Anybody got a Mississippi Queen in the bridge position on an Epi Les Paul?
I'm toying with pairing one with my existing Mule in the neck
my thinking is the current bridge pickup (Rio Grande Texas BBQ) sounds very dark, I'd like to brighten/clear up the sound, and I like the classic overdriven sound of the P90's and was hoping to get a wider tonal range from the guitar going into a Blackstar HT-5h

Do they hum a lot? would there be any problems wiring one with the existing humbucker's pots (CTS 500k) caps (sprague orange drop)etc

Cheers

P90s do hum, and quite a bit at that. If you don't play with too much gain it will not be much of a problem though.

There would be no problem using the existing wiring with a P90. Most P90 guitars use the same values as humbucker guitars (500k log, 22nf or 0.022uf caps).

I agree the Rio Grande BBQ is rather on the dark side of the spectrum. But instead of a P90 I would go for a VHII in the bridge. No hum but still a bit of a single coil vibe due to the asymmetrical coils.

Cheers Stephan

What about a Riff Raff for the bridge?  Bright sounding and should work quite nicley with the mule in the neck position.
