Which BKP for my sevenstring?Replacing Rebel Yell,need agressive but darker tone

Hi guys! I recently bought a used custom Daemoness Cimmerian, this one btw:



It currently has a Rebel Yell in the bridge and while it sounds suuuuper tight and aggressive, it kinda suffers from the same harshness problems I had with a Painkiller not long ago. Also, it seems to lack in low end/low mids.

Basically, I'd want to keep that aggressiveness and tightness for low tunings (I play modern progressive Metal in drop A) but with a mid-centered pickup rather than a high-mid centered one, and it surely must have some balls for heavy palm mutes.

I'm sure most of you would think about the Aftermath as the obvious choice, but...wouldn't it be too bright?

This guitar has:

ash body
maple set-in neck
ebony board
maple top

That's why I'm concerned about the AM being too bright...I had super good results with it in a MusicMan JP7 BFR guitar, but it had darker sounding woods, so...

I don't know too much about the BKP high gainers, but maybe the Miracle Man could suit your needs...

I should add that I really don't like the Miracle Man for my needs, doesn't have that "pumpy" midrange I'm searching for.

Warpig could be a nice option, I'm wondering if the ceramic version, while having some serious low end balls, has enough mids.

The two pickups that come to mind are the Alnico Nailbomb and the Black Dog. Both should work very well with the guitar and low tunings.

1) it would be tight enough for drop A tuning
2) it would have that aggressive midrange I'm searching for

I really like the Aftermath, but it's a bright pickup imho and don't know if it would suit the guitar best. The Rebel Yell is already very bright and harsh in it.

Perhaps try using a different pot value. 
 I think Tim is pretty good a predicting pickups for given situations.
  If the RY is to harsh, why not try a 500k pot in place of the 550k that is in there?  Assuming that you have two 550k pots.  You could also try using a 250k pot where the tone control is.  I have a friend that has a Jackson that has one 550k pot for the volume, he says its too harsh. So we are going to drop a the 250k tone pot that was originally in it, that we removed. Its all about experimenting.  We all have different ears, and different tones in our heads that we want to hear coming out of our speakers.  The only way is to try, tweak this and that, and eventually we get there.  Some times it takes much time and money to get there, but in the end it is worth the butt load of experience and information that is gain.  I like to think of it as tuition for self college of tone.

i'm not a fan of the nailbomb, but would actually suggest it too in this case.

I honestly don't know which pots are used on it, have emailed Dylan at Daemoness for further infos.
The pot thing is not a bad idea at all, assuming I have 550k pots...

I've listened to the alnico Nailbomb's modern metal sound sample and I find it too "old school" sounding for my taste, but I really like the ceramic version, which I have in another guitar. The ceramic version is however too bright and won't work well in this particular guitar.

But since the sample recordings were made with a Les Paul, I guess the result will be very different on my guitar....

I still think that a some kind of "slightly darker" Aftermath could work very well in it, so if the pot thing makes some difference, I'm considering it.

the nailbomb won't sound "old school" unless you want it to
through high gainers, its one of the most modern sounding models

If you basically like the Rebel Yell but want more bass and less highs, Alnico Nailbomb is the way to go.

Seems like most people agree on the alnico Nailbomb, I hope it will be tight enough for my genre.

Two options then: go with Aftermath, which I love, but use lower K pots, or just go with an alnico Nailbomb, which I'm not familiar with, but have heard amazing things.

My stuff is quite technical though, so hope the clarity won't be less than what I need.
