VHIIs for a Peavey V-type
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:43:18 PM »
I'm interested in getting some VHII pickups for my Peavey V-type ntb, which has an alder body, floyd rose trem and a through-neck.

Does anyone think this would be a good match?

I don't think VH2s would be quite the right pickup for the V-Type. I have one and have found it quite tempramental with pickups.

The recommendations I'd give would be Holy Diver or a Nailbomb.

You don't say what sound you're looking for or what amp you are playing through so it is hard to help more.

Hi, thanks for your quick response.

I tend to play hard rock stuff mainly, nothing massively high gain. I'd like a pickup that was versatile, but would be good for tapping and harmonics etc, hence why I was looking at the VHII.

I hadn't really considered the Nailbomb, as it seems to be a bit too high gain for what I need. How would you say the Holy Diver compares to the VHII?

The amp I use is a Mesa Boogie Subway Blues. How would you say your v-type was temperamental when it came to changing pickups?

The HD has more center- and uppermids, but a rounded topend. More modern sounding then the VHII which I consider as the ultimate PAF-ish (hard)rockpickup. I have it in an ash Fender American Series. It's very balanced, with enough bass, good mids and nice open topend, not shrill even in ash. With some gain it's totally wicked. Great harmonics when you dig in. Very touchsensitive. Cleans up great too. The voicing helps to get your tapping through the mix. I totally love the tones. The VHII will not sounds as big as the beefier HD, it has a brighter voice, though not a sheep either.
