Height adjustment issues
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:34:04 PM »
I'm putting some Aftermaths in a Sterling(Musicman) JP50 (John Petrucci)

An issue I'm not understanding is how to set the pickup height. I don't have bezels and every single video online involves a guitar with bezels like a LP. My old pickups are much different than the BKPs in that the holes in the pickup legs are wide and the screws just slid threw them. They also had foam on the bottom with springs attached to make height adjusting easy. The BKPs have holes that the screw must thread into tightly. I assume the springs it came with are for bezels, but I don't know. I've tried putting them in different ways and there is no way to adjust the height after they are set without completely taking them out again. Also the screws and the springs seem unnecessarily long.

Can't you just drill out the holes in the BKPs so they work just like the stock ones?  Using the stock springs, foam, screws etc?

Yes, I had thought about that, but wanted to get some clarity before I did that. I figured the legs came threaded and fit for the screws for a reason, but I can't find one yet. HAHA!

They're the way there as that's how they fit 95%+ of guitars!

They fit in mine fine, but how can you adjust them when there is no give? Unless you have bezels.

I've never done this before. Obviously.
Just to clarify, when I tighten or loosen the screws the height of the pickup doesn't change, just how deep the screw is in the wood and leg hole.

This is a common issue with direct mount pickups.

What i did was widen the screw mounting holes with a small drill so that it could be done in the standard way.
