Help! In the neck of the Miracle Man.
« on: March 17, 2012, 11:19:43 AM »
Hi all!
I already have, on various guitars, a couple of different sets of Bare Knutskle pickups. This is a great pickup! Always put the kits, but Painkiller combined with the Cold Sweet neck. On my new guitar (strat mahogany body, maple neck pasted) I want to put the miracle man of the bridge and PAF in the neck. I think the VH II or Crawler. I know basically all put to the MM neck CS but I need something more vocal, beautiful and clean. The main thing that was not a big difference on the balance of volume between the pickups. Who has the experience of mixing the pickups, tell me that it is better to put in the neck.
Sorry for my english))) Best regards, Dmitry.

I'd say Crawler as my second choice. It's a True Vintage neck pickup which wouldmatc your needs. Another great choice would be the Emerald. It's like a slightly hotter Crawler, but stil retaining that Vintage PAF sound. And also the cleans are absolutely fanastic. Th reason I prefer theEmerald over the other PAF style pickups is because as well as having a beautiful clean tone, it's got enough output to really sing through distortion.

It was this clip that sold me it for the clean sound. But through Overdrive/Distortion, it sounds fantastic:

Thank you mbchepburn, very interesting idea! Do you think the difference in volume will be strong between the Miracle Man and Emerald?

Tim told me once that the Crawler neck would work very well with the Miracle Man bridge. Have not tried it though since I swapped my Miracle Man to a one pickup guitar.

Cheers Stephan

Well as you can see, the MM's Output is a lot higher, but with the MM, any neck pickup is going to be significantly lower if you want it for that nice clean sound. The Emerald would actually still be a good match though if I'm honest, because the Emerald is 9.6dc, as to some ofthe other neck pickups in the contemporary range which are actually lower.

By the way tell me, as a miracle man will sound in a guitar of mahogany? Would it be too much low EQ?

I would have thought a Miracle Man would be tight enough to cut through the mahogany but if you want something brighter if it's a dark sounding guitar you could try the C-Bomb. The Emerald in the neck should be a good choice and work well. I've been talking to Tim about putting a Holydiver in the bridge of a PRS SE Custom 24 which is mahogany and he suggested an Emerald for the neck of mine to achieve exactly what you're looking for.
