Okay so normally my first choice would be BKP's. I'm thinking about purchasing a Gibson SG Standard and I usually end up replacing stock pickups. I have been after a guitar sound like Mikko Lindstrom (He uses SD SH4's/SH5's) for his guitars (I'm assuming thats for bridges). I was wondering what Bare knuckles can pull off his kind of sound?

I already have nailbomb (bridge) and cold sweat (Neck) in my Ibanez S series and although I really like that sound I want something more like above for the SG. I need a bridge that is chuggy/ great for leads, and a neck pick up to pair it with that is tonally rich but can handle some gain.

Please help people with BKP knowledge??

For the Sh-4, Holydiver

For the Sh-5, Coldsweat

It's always guaranteed to start a debate whenever anyone suggests BKP "equivalents" of Duncan, DiMarzio or EMG models....

I don't know anything about Mikko Lindstrom or what he sounds like, but I will say that a Cold Sweat is much better suited to an SG than a Holydiver.  I suspect the HD would sound too bassy/middy, whereas the CS is tight, clear and crunchy, no clutter in the midrange.  CS neck is nice in an SG too, fat and singing.

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Interesting. What would be best to pair them with in the neck? Considering the tone I want out of the neck (mentioned in previous  post).

If you're interested in the Cold Sweats, I'd just go for the calibrated set, I think they complement each other perfectly.

The neck CS is definitely "tonally rich but can handle some gain".

But don't take my word for it, maybe someone who knows more about HIM will chime in.

I have a Cold sweat in the neck of my Ibanez, Although I like the sound it isn't what I am looking for this time round for the neck.

(He uses SD SH4's/SH5's) for his guitars (I'm assuming thats for bridges).

Yes, these are designed for the bridge position. As far as I know there are no specific SH-4 and SH-5 neck models. They are usually paired with the SH-1 (the '59) or the SH-2 (the Jazz).

I was wondering what Bare knuckles can pull off his kind of sound?

I never played an SH-5, only SH-4. I am confident to say that no BKP sounds like the SH-4, and that's a good thing.

I already have nailbomb (bridge) and cold sweat (Neck) in my Ibanez S series and although I really like that sound I want something more like above for the SG. I need a bridge that is chuggy/ great for leads, and a neck pick up to pair it with that is tonally rich but can handle some gain.

For the bridge: Cold Sweat, C-Bomb or Miracle Man (all bridge models)
For the neck: I am not sure what you really want - "tonally rich but can handle some gain" can really mean anything. Do you want more output than the Cold Sweat, less output, more beef/highs/mids etc.?

Cheers Stephan

Well I just searched Mikko Lindstrom on Youtube - I must say his tone appears rather dark to me - very typical SG tone. My idea is that the Holydiver would get you closest to that. However I am fully aware that SGs tend to be middy so the Holydiver may overaccentuate that particular frequency range.

Unfortunately in all samples I found he used the bridge pickup so I am not sure what to recommend for the neck spot. If you go Holydiver for the bridge then the complete set would be in order.

Cheers Stephan

Fair enough, but bear in mind the pickup may sound very different in an SG than it does in the Ibanez (I'm assuming your Ibanez is an RG or something like that with a Floyd and a bolt-on maple neck)

A C-Bomb might do.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I would go for C-bomb  Coldsweat for what your are asking honestly.  My previous statement was only referring to the pickups mention; sh-4 and sh-5.  That suggest was made on the basis of what was shared to me from the BK team.  I don't quote those folks, because they haven't given me permission to do so.  But you should do well with either the CS or NB-C.

Cheers for the info guys. A lot of different opinions there so I'm not sure where to start. I will just have to listen to more clips.  - I can't watch videos until later tonight.
