Ah! I'd been wondering who'd got it....

Nice one :D

And a growing collection of tasteful pictures for Roo (with no warning in the thread title) - good to see

Every man should own a Telecaster. Or an Esquire. And it should be illegal to put humbuckers in them.

But its still legal to put piledriver in 'em, right?  :D

The older I get, the more I tend to agree with that. I guess you could call it "growing up"..

Yeah, I tend agree as well... but I was keeping quiet

(I'm more averse to humbuckers in strats, personally)

Oh well, I'm guilty of humbuckers in Strats and Teles.  And I don't care.  Call me immature.  :P

(Actually, I'd say ridiculously overwound single-coils are less "grown up" than moderate-output humbuckers.  I've never seen the appeal of super-hot pickups.)

And this seems a little unfair.  If it's OK to have single-coils (P-90s) in Gibsons, why not humbuckers in Fenders?

This thread makes me want to buy a headless Telecaster with 3 EMG 81s in it.

It is effectively a humbucker in the Esquire though - albeit a stacked one!

I've never seen the appeal of super-hot pickups.

Would you class the BG-1400 as super hot Philly? IIRC the oputput of that when Dave measured it was something like 26k!

My memory isn't the best though so I may have got the numbers confused.
I think I hate being indecisive.

That's probably one of those misleading DC resistance figures, though - it's a stack, so the coils probably aren't wired in series, and it may be super-thin wire as well.

DiMarzio minibuckers used to have huge DC resistance figures but they're very low output.

(Actually I tried to order a BG-1400 from Feline once, but it never showed up.)

Ian's right, the pickup resistance was crazy at around 30k - must very, very thin wire...

I'm shocked here, people have started agreeing with me. This is something of a first.

Just to clarify, my real objection isn't to humbuckers in teles. What bothers me is when people buy a Tele with a really sweet sounding bridge pickup and the classic bridge then rout a big hole in it, gut it and stick a super high output pickup in there. It just doesn't suit the look and feel of a tele to turn it into a drop-tuned baritone distortocaster, that's as bad as sticking a Kahler on a Les Paul.

I'm entering an official request for more pics of the Esquire. Just to counteract that Charvel nonsense.
