Strat bodies-- where to buy the 'best'?
« on: March 23, 2012, 04:46:07 PM »
Ok, so for a long time now, i've been hankering for a strat-- just never got round to getting one, and my Charvel doesn't have the neck that i'm after from a strat, so it'll just stay as my 80s guitar with a VHII.

So I want to build a strat, and am looking at what places there are to buy finished bodies-- I haven't decided yet, but i'm leaning a little more towards an aged look. As far as necks go, I like a big neck, and I also like Vs too, but if I have to build the neck myself, I don't really mind-- I just don't really have the time to build an finish a body at the moment.

In conclusion: what places are good to buy a finished/relic'd strat body from? i'm looking for an Alder body (doesn't matter if it's 1/2/3 piece), and standard SSS routing.

I bought a relic'd Telemaster body from MJT who sell through eBay. I was very impressed with their work and their prices seem fair to me.

Warmoth will make you a neck how ever you want it.  The only thing is, they general use a one piece.

For a relic body, I would try ebay, I guess.  Unless you know where you can get some one to do  a relic paint job. Warmoth could make the strat body too.  My friend just got a neck made from them, and it looks pretty sharp.

What Andrew said.

If you're after a Relic body specifically, I don't know anywhere better - prices are very reasonable too, especially if you get an auction item rather than a buy-it-now.  Mark and Matt Jenny are nice guys to deal with, too.

The necks they sell are Allparts - the finishes are good, but I don't like the necks themselves as much as Warmoth.

If you want a big V neck USA Customs are probably the way to go.
