Met Paul Reed Smith today
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:02:58 PM »
http://www.toneworld.co.uk/blog/2012/03/meet-paul-reed-smith-prs-experience-manchester/

Went to this event at Tone World today.
Mr Smith spent a few hours talking about what he has learnt about what makes a good guitar. Clearly this is a miniscule amount of his encyclopaedic knowledge on the subject, but good to hear from the oracle.

I came away with the thought that if I was in the market for a new guitar and I was choosing between PRS, Fender or Gibson, I'd come away with a PRS. If you asked me this morning it would have been a Fender

Twinfan was also in attendance.
Anyone else there?

great endorsement of toneworld by prs. i looked at the guitars on their homepage though, holy hell 7.5k, your jesting.
i guesstimate those guitars to be worth at tops 3.5 k with the most special cuts of wood and hand built. so 3.5k for the brand prs......no mas

They're worth it to me, without a doubt.  I seriously doubt I'll buy another guitar brand again, as I find PRS guitars so good that nothing else competes with them.

Your Mileage May Vary though, as ever.

Oh, and I got the "full set" today - all my USA PRS guitars have now been signed by Paul  :D

He's a great bloke, and he had a nice chat with Mrs Twinfan too.  She's up for going to the annual PRS Experience at the factory, so I need to look into that.  I have a very supportive wife, for which I'm very grateful.  As Paul said yesterday, guitars are sophisticated heroin!

Damn, should have gone!  I need some free dental care so I could have got chatting so some of the clientele :D

Joking aside, I would have liked to have gone, but was out on my mountain bike instead.  It's nice he gets out and meets the players, some makers are too up themselves to do such a thing.  Nice you got your guitar signed TF, although now it's got Dave on the back it will have to be a keeper.

A bit of T-Cut will sort that out, no problem!  :P

Exactly - easily removed if required, however I'm sick of selling guitars so it's staying.  Buying is another matter though, obviously...

The more I hear (and see) about PRS the more I think I should really get a PRS one day. Fender will always be at the top of my list but it could, just could, come under threat one day. If I went down this route I do feel I would have to make myself learn to play properly though rather than just bashing out a few power chords.

Nice one on getting them signed Dave - did you have to take out any special insurance for that? Quite a bit of value to be carrying around!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Nah, IT guys don't get to the inner circle...

I only had to take the three pickup singlecut - all the others were done already.  I took the Modern Eagle when I met him last year, and all Private Stocks get signed at the factory.
