Hiya,

This morning I was looking at the replacement pickup options for my Mid-80's Gibson SG, and was almost set on some EMGs, when someone on another forum mentioned BKP.

So anyway, I ended up at the BKP website earlier this evening, and I'm still stuck here.  ;)

My current thinking is that I must've been daft to want EMGs after hearing some of the demos here, and I'm torn between the Miracle Man and Nailbomb pickups now.  What a difference 14hrs makes!!

There also seems to be a pretty decent community here too, which is really nice.  So I thought I'd just say hello.  :)

Welcome Welcome my good man!
I'd suggest the miracle man for a bloody good EMG impression, with more of the EMG's strengths, and less of its weaknesses. The Nailbomb is pure Hot Rock and Roll, with a huge chaotic sound, but slightly more of a vintage vibe - bt hey - that might be what yu like, i know it's what i like
LOVING the Mules!

Thanks for the welcome.  :)

I'm mainly looking for versatile pickups that can handle most of the stuff I like to play.  Which could be anything from Buffalo Tom style indie-rock to full-on thrashy stuff like Arch Enemy, and everything in between.

I know I won't be able to find a perfect fit for all those styles, but as long as most of the bases are covered.  I'm just kinda fed up with the current SG pickups (no idea what they are) as they're a bit muddy sounding, and quite low output.

I also have an Ibanez JEM7BSB, which is loaded with DiMarzio Evolutions, which helps with variety a bit.  :)

I've no got EMG's myself but apparently they don't sound very good with fuzz pedals etc. Like yourself I nearly bought them until I found out about BKPs. BKP's may not have the power of EMG's (although they are close) but they are clearer by far. EMG's (with the exception of David Gilmour) are really aimed at Metal players so aren't that versatile.

Welcome Muttley. I had EMG's in my Strat and replaced them with Apaches- no comparison imo. The EMG's were, to be fair, great pups but the Apaches sing.
Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance
BKP's: Apache, Country Boy, Slowhands.

Yeah, that's what's tempting me so far.  :)

And hey, if I fancy trying the MM's later It'll give me an excuse to buy another guitar to put them in.  Everyone's a winner!  ;)

Thanks for the welcome.

Well I think a Miracle Man set would satisfy your metal needs, for sure. However, the recent ravings about the Holydivers make me think they're what you want, as people seem to have found they can handle both areas.

And welcome!  :P

Thank you.

The avatar is ace, isn't it.  Stumbled on the piccy a while back and it made me chuckle enough to keep it.  :)
