Damnation Festival 2012
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:14:05 PM »
The kind of festivals I do are never going to be awash with folks from here, but there's a few who dig the stuff we put on, so:

Quote

US grindcore stalwarts PIG DESTROYER will return to the UK for the first time in eight years to perform at Damnation Festival.

The Virginia extreme metal quartet will make a rare overseas excursion to headline the Terrorizer Stage at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

It marks the first of many coups for the eighth edition of Damnation Festival, following a hugely successful event last year, and eager fans can get their hands on early bird priced tickets which will go on sale at 9am tomorrow.

On returning to UK shores, Pig Destroyer said: "Pig Destroyer is pleased to announce they are looking forward getting pissed in the UK for the first time in eight years.

"Our British accents are a little rusty and new drummer Adam Jarvis is going to have a doss time."

Festival director Gavin McInally added: "It's great to get this year off to a bang, and they don't come much noisier than Pig Destroyer.

"There isn't a more suitable stage to host their long-awaited return to the UK than our legendary Terrorizer Stage, which they'll close in devastating fashion.

"As always, we'll aim to put together the most exciting and diverse bill we can possibly manage and, having not raised ticket prices since 2008, we'll keep early bird tickets at £29 for our loyal fanbase."

Tickets are on sale, priced £29 from home - leedstickets.com - tickets for Leeds University Union | Stylus | Mine | Pulse | The Refectory and via the official Damnation Festival site and Facebook through Ticketscript: Damnation Festival 2012 - Official Website

Yeah, if I was the booking I'd probably just go "yeah, that'll do" and take time off.

It's been five months. We've already been getting battered with "When are you starting to announce 2012".

Pretty excited about the next couple bookings, too, but I suspect PD will be the highlight for me this year.

Just seen that MDB have been added, good stuff! Having not been to a gig for well over a year (and generally being absent from 'the scene' for a number of years now), I should probably do something about it, & this could be it!

Some suggestions from me would be: Indesinence, Esoteric, Pantheist, The River (don't know if they're still going, but would love to see them again), Akerc--ke and Orange Goblin. That's all I can remember, but I feel a little nostalgic, so am going to listen to some things to relive the good old days!
Nailbomb, VHII, Warpig 7, MQ, Black Dog, 10th Anniversary

We had Esoteric a couple years ago and we try not to repeat stuff too quickly. Akercocke are friends of mine and someone we're keen to have back but it wont be this year with Dave now playing drums for My Dying Bride.

Be another announcement in a couple weeks and the headliner one a couple weeks after that. Quite excited about some of the folk we've got in the pipeline.

I'm in the midst of starting to sort out the technical aspects for headliner stage shows and stuff just now. Always a joy.

You will of course remember to take many, many pictures of Scott Hull's rig, right?!

No. Like almost everyone we've ever put on (including people with signature heads and whatnot) his tech rider asks for a 5150 and two unspecified 4x12s.

Generally everyone asks for either 5150s, JCM2000s or Dual Recs. Pretty much everyone just says one of the three and they're happy - and they obviously sound little alike - and almost nobody ever wants to bring anything of their own.

It always makes me smile. The country is awash with guys in small pub bands and even smaller originals bands that are hyper-specific about gear when bands getting flown around the world are happy with a 'aye, something like one of these will do fine'.

Well, when you're touring and playing for serious (more or less), you start to get a bit more realistic about those things

Same explanation as with "why is 99% of all hyper-expensive boutique gear owned by people who never play gigs and aren't in bands."
