Pickups for my Telecaster
« on: March 27, 2012, 07:17:25 PM »
Hi,

I'm looking for a new Tele pickup set.

I don't know which PU would suit my needs...

I have a 2010 Fender Custom Shop 61 RI Telecaster. Specs are: Light Ash Body, Maple Neck, Madagascar Rosewood Fretboard... The stock pu are the 51 Nocaster Fender PUs

I really really like the neck PU sound at the moment. The sound is very woody, hollow, very responsive and clear...

But both Pickups do not handle the highs very well. The tend to sound harsh and piercing on higher single notes....

I mostly play clean stuff and bluesrock with this guitar. No Hardrock or other stuff... Would say from John Mayer to 70s Rock...

Do you have any advice?

Thank you very much so far...

Hi, I am tempted to suggest the Country Boy set- they are traditional tele tone with all that that entails-Very warm but clear. Currently my Tele is my main gigging guitar- I just love it . Having said that, there are some newer tele sets that are also aimed at the traditional player that I have no experience of but I am sure that others will be along shortly to assist.

The BG52-set would do, though the neckpickup has some strattiness to it which has to be your cup of tea. Yardbirds are balanced too with 'no icepick highs'.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
