Heylo ! I'm new to this stuff, I've never changed my pups before so here we go.

I'm tired of my active pickups (emg 81 / 85 ) on my LTD mh 401. I can not reach my dream sound with them.

So i'm looking for passive ? Active bkp pups ?

I'm looking for a high gain tone like : (links, better than words, and will save you the time to find what i'm talking about)

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJg1McSXf10&feature=relmfu
2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWEr_oxLL5s&feature=BFa&list=FL_S22oduphq8cfuxpWEZvTw&lf=plpp_video
3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBazfB4oaGE&feature=BFa&list=FL_S22oduphq8cfuxpWEZvTw&lf=plpp_video
4) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gS5Ns3ekus&feature=BFa&list=FL_S22oduphq8cfuxpWEZvTw&lf=plpp_video
5) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnNmmxmmHF0&feature=relmfu

and let me add , periphery, red seas fire, He is Legend, Corelia, Scar symmetry.

So this is the kind of tone i'm looking for and I'd like to know which one would fit the best, also if it would fit in my guitar, and passive or active
:)

Thank's in advance, have a great week end  :D

Sounds like an Aftermath is the ticket for you. I thought it was going to be another "which BKPs are closest to EMGs" thread then haha. Which I think everyone would have said Miracle Man. But the bottom end on them songs sound very Aftermath to me :)

Thank's for the tip ! well I've looked around, and seems like corelia use Cold sweat. Periphery use / used, so many different combinations haha

So yeah I had in mind these, and the aftermath aswell, but I wanted some advices.

btw, are they passive pickups? and might there be an issue of not enough space in my guitar cavity for these humbuckers, or they fit any six string guitars.

Anyways I rly like the aftermath and cold sweat samples i've heard around.

Well Cold Sweat is very scooped, whilst the Aftermath is very Mid-Focussed. With your guitar being Maple Neck Thru & Maple Top, the CS may be a tad bright and aggressive in the top end. Advantages of the Aftermath is that it cuts through the mix very well, which makes it an ideal pickup for Djent, or bands with 2 guitar playes.

Question though: do you want an extremely surgical tight pickup? The Aftermath is one of thos pickups where you have to fight against it because it tracks very accurately, so you have to start playing with precision. A few people I know, including myself, didn't like the Aftermath for this reason. I like my Humbuckers to flow effortlessly, as to sounding like a noise gate is on full when I'm playing. Not trying to put you off, just a jump from EMG to Aftermath may be a shock at first haha. But Periphery do use them  :)

And yes they are passive, and I don't see no reason why they shouldn't fit. Just remember to get 53mm if you have a trem, and 50mm if not. As well as short leg.

All guitars with humbuckers have the same sized cavities. There won't be a problem in terms of size.
But you'll have to replace the pots in your guitar to pots for passive pickups because your current pickups are active whilst BKPs are passive.

Also, does your guitar have a Floyd Rose or is it a hard tail? If it has a Floyd rose then for the bridge pickup you'll need to choose 52mm pole spacing. If hard tail youll need a 50mm pole spacing.

Thank's ! thats good to know, indeed my emgs are very high output, and messy not very clean / accurate, bit muddy kinda.

So a "softer" version of the aftermath would be the best I think, but yet still agressive and high gain :)

but afterall, I could manage to play with aftermath, but i'm afraid, the change might be too brutal haha.

Yes hard tail !

thank you for your feedback!

How about the Miracle Man then? Great at fast licks, runs, solos, etc. It also has a very thick low end which is great for riffs, but it is also very tight in a good way. A lot of people move from EMGs to Miracle Mans.

There's also the C-Pig, which has a massive bottom end, although that may be a bit too much for a Maple Neck thru. But I've herad people with them in mahogany, so it's all personal taste. Heres a vid that includes the comparison of Aftermath/Duncan Distortion/Duncan Invader/Warpig:

I actually like the Distortion and Pig in this clip. But you'll see how the Aftermath is a hell of a lot tighter. The C-Pig has more fluency to it. The Invader just sounds weak and lifeless lol.

Yes indeed, I prefer the warpig in the clip. How the warpig would sound with my guitar's spec, I mean, u said miracle man would fit very nicely. I've listenned to the three modern metal samples (after math / miracle man / warpig) and I'd pick first (based on the samples) alnico warpig  , aftermath and then miracle man !

Well for your music, I'd go with Ceramic over Alnico. And I've learnt not to rely on the clips on the website as they don't really show their potential. With the Miracle Man and Warpig, you really need to hear it through a loud amp to appreciate the bottom end and how thick it sounds. Clips will never capture that element.

I think being a Maple Neck Thru, you'll have great bass transfer, and with the Mahogany wings, that will balance the tone a bit, and with the Maple Top (I'm sure your guitar has it) it will brighten things up a bit. The Miracle Man excells in Maple Neck Thru guitars. The Aftermath is an any guitar kinda pickup. The Warpig suits guitars that are brighter, as putting one in a dark Les Paul can make it sound very Doom.

yes i totally understand what u mean by not relying on soundclips.

So far i'm pretty convinced for a warpig Ceramic.  and as a second choice the miracle man. I'll make my choice very soon.

Thank you for your time and ur greatness mate !!
