Argh! A high-pitched whine has introduced itself to my BKPs

Right, so a couple of weeks ago, me and my band heard a high whine (like that of a television set, kids), and recently I discovered that it was to do with the pups. Now none of the wires were touching at the pots, and I haven't had a chance to look at the 'buckers themselves, but can anyone hazard an educated guess at why it might be ever present?

It gets louder as I slide up the volume, and can be heard as soon as 1. It's not feedback, the cable, the amps, or electrical interference. Any help would be appreciated. Unless it comes from Sambo (no offence, chuck).

What is leading to to suspect it is the pickups? Ive never encountered the problem before, under what situation did the noise appear?

So far I've switched between about four amps, changed cables several times, and tried them in many different rooms, and the whine is still present. It's not loud, and is always the same constant pitch.

I only became aware of it recently, which makes me think it may have come about while wiring the MM I received at Christmas. I've had a look at the pots and main areas of wiring, but nothing is suspect - they're all solidly wired, and not touching.

That is wierd, does it happen to all the pickups??  If it does then I'd say it was wiring, chances of the same fault in more than one pickup is pretty rare. If it is in just one position there could be a problem, I'm sure Tim or Steve will check it out if you send it back.

Never heard a sound as you describe.....! :P

I didn't mean the pickup itself, but their could potentially be a fault at the pickup end of the wiring. As I said, I haven't looked yet. It's both pickups in all three positions (LP). I have a feeling I need to whip out the iron and set about fine tuning some connections.

I bought the two pups seperately, and when it was the Mule neck partnered with the Fralin bridge, there wasn't anything wrong at all. Of course, it could be that it's nothing to do with the MM being wired in, and somethings simply wobbly, but I've had a quick look, and everything seems fine. Any more opinions?

Its pretty unlikely that both pickups would be faulty, but If you want to eliminate that possibility then feel free to send them in and we will give them the once over.
It doesn't sound like a bad pot and It doesn't sound like microphony, that isn't a constant pitch it tends to squeel, you can even talk into them and hear your voice through your amp.

To make things worse (or much, much better), the whine actually stopped when I played it a few days ago (while still in the UK) through my friends laney (tube of some description). I haven't had an opportunity to test it on my usual amps to see if it's all stopped, or whether it just selects when it wants to disappear (it's been constant on every amp I'd tried before). When I get back (this Saturday), I'll let you know how testing goes.
