So as the title states, I have an RG7321 (basswood) and I'm having a difficult time deciding on what I want to replace the stock pickups with. For my 6 strings I love the Crunchlab/liquifire combo. The reason I'm not going with that for the 7 is because I've read that the 7 string version of the Crunchlab isn't as tight as the 6. I think the 6 string is plenty tight but I wouldn't mind it being tighter if anything so I definitely don't want any less.
I know none of the BKP will be exactly like the CL but thats not what I want anyway. I would like something pretty similar though because I like the overall tonal quality of the CL. Its what I've shaped my tone off of and I'd like to keep with it. I just don't want something that has a lot less mids, more highs, not enough bass etc... Basically I'd like an upgraded CL so to speak. Tighter in the low end, more articulate, clarity for chords but still fluid for leady parts.
I think I've narrowed my choices down to the coldsweat and C-bomb. This is all basically going off clips I've heard online but some of them vary so much from each other and thats why I'm coming here for help. I do know that I don't want Aftermaths. Just from every clip I've heard I just really don't think it's what I want. Its a liiiittle too metal for what I need. I know the CS and C-bomb have more output than the CL but thats alright. I just don't want something drastically different. I like the clips I've found of both of them but people give varying opinions. From the EQ graphs on the BK website, it looks like each of them have less mids and more highs. Its just hard for me to really know what that would mean to me in real life. So can anyone tell me where a CL might fall on that graph? The CS has less mids but say you compared it to a CL, is it a big difference or around the same mids.
Another thing I've heard a lot is that the CS is too bright in basswood, but Corelia used a CS set in their RG to record their EP and it doesn't come off as overly bright to me at all. I actually quite like the tone. It seems pretty warm to me especially with the lead parts. I don't know if its exactly what I want, but my Axe Fx may be EQed a lot different than theirs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFtrWfbIdTUAnother thing that might help me is if anyone :cough:NOLLY:cough: could tell what pickups are in the Blackmachines Periphery is using in these videos. I love the tone, and the playing style in the clips is a good example of what I like to do. There are some tight bottom string chugs mixed with leady runs and nice chords within the same riff and it all has a good tone. I'm pretty sure they are different pickups in each guitar and I understand that the Blackmachines sound a good bit different than my Ibanez but I thought it would be a good way to help me decide. I think the first clip of Mark playing that whole part in the song is a great example.
