NEW STROBE TUNER DAY!

I used to have an old Conn Strobotune ST11 - like this one below
I had it over 22 years , and it gave great service , but I retired it eventually  as it tended to be a little temperamental now and then (although I did upgrade the neon strobe light just before retiring it.
I ended up selling it to a customer who knew it's foibles and i got myself one of the Peterson rack-mounted strobes.


Didn't think too much more about it , although I always had a couple of tuner pedals around as they are handy
Then Peterson released this and I just had to have it:



I have to confess I love it to death  - the look is so similar to the old CONN , but it is loaded with extra features .
It has lots of sweetened tunings, Buzz Feiten settings and alternate instrument tunings too
It can be set to read lowered tunings as well which will be fun.
It does have a DI box feature built in which may come in useful at some stage , but I am enjoying it just as a tuner

The LCD screen is backlit with quite a bright LED and the note letter glows quite vividly, but because my studio flash is so strong it kind of obscures that light.

Nice tuner ballpark you got there. The mini version of the polytune is really small. Is it good?

I know nothing about strobe tuners, but hopefully you're pleased with the new team member.

I really like the TC Polytune and the mini is just as good - but it needs a 9v power supply as it is too small to have a battery  in it. Great for pedalboards where space is tight.

Strobe tuners are easy to use - you just tune till the pattern stops moving and you are in tune.

I've only seen one other old strobe tuner like that. It was operated on valves and I wanted it very much when I saw it in action. That Peterson strobostomp seems to be a good replacement. Much less to worry about.

That is indeed interresting, congrats!

I once had a little Strobo Tuner that was intregrated into a pick. Nice to work with and precise as nothing else. Unfortunentally the build quality was shitee and it broke. Still miss that precision though.

If this stomp was not so expensive I would get it right away to have another strobo tuner. Well, maybe another time...but I eventually will get one!

I will keep an eye on that, but since I am in Germany I doubt that it will work out. WeŽll see though. Anyway thanks for the link!

I would spring for the clip on version, but the Feline Headless would give me trouble with that decision.^^

Not sure whether you're after other opinions, but I'm going to stick my oar in anyway. Got a polytune mini the other day and I'm loving the poly mode for quick, between-song checks, and the fact it's so tiny. Not so keen on the positioning of the power jack – given that the tuner sits at the far right of my board, it'd be better if that weren't on the right of the pedal. But that's a relatively minor/specific to my setup gripe. Still not sure if it falls into the "this is pretty decent" or "love it to bits" camp, but I've only used it in a couple of practices so far.

All opinions welcome so thanks Richard. I like the idea of being able to check tuning across all strings. I wondered if, in practice, it worked well and from what you say, it does. Thanks.
