Cutom etched covers

Hi all,

I read on this very forum that, aside from the BKP logo which is free, you could get anything laser etched on your covers on request and for an extra charge. I thus have several follow-up questions:

1. How complex can the etched logo actually be? And how does complexity affect the extra price?
2. [solved]I want these for Aftermath pickups. Does that model have to have 12 screw poles? Cause that wouldn't leave room for anything other than inline text between the two rows of poles...
3. [solved]How would the etching look on a chrome cover? Would it stand out or would you need to shed light on it and look at them sideways to discern the etching?
4. I would have these fitted as part of an order for a new custom guitar. How would I go about making these BKP special requests? Should I entrust the luthier with all my demands or contact Tim Mills myself and somehow put them both in the loop?

I think you can have double slug coils, so you would have a closed iommi/emg style cover
but you can't have unmatched coils

Do you mean by that that with the Aftermath, you can either have 12 or no screw but not just 6 on one side? How come is that?

best bet is to ask tim

i know custom etched covers used to be an option if you supplied artwork, and custom polepeice layouts was also an option.

but you may be  out of luck as they are no longer offering as many custom options as they used to

unmatching coils would make it a different pickup tonewise and BKP doesn't offer that kind of custom option anymore
the aftermath is supposed to have twin coils, like the warpig
I asked for a one screw coil aftermath to fit a regular looking cover and they wouldn't do it, so I decided to go for exposed coils instead
can't answer about the custom etching, though

The aftermath NEEDS to have 2 sets of screws that go through the baseplate, as this is integral to making the specific tone of the pickup.

I imagine your only option could be to have a double row of screws and have one set left flush with the top of the bobbin and the other set extended and coming through a cover with a single row of holes - BUT this will depend on whether BKP will do it

You can get covers that look like EMGS for the aftermath.

They just use a double slug pole.

However the pickup doesnt sound the same its thinner overall i found.

the sound is different with double slug though - the screws going through the plate give more low end

Thats what i experienced too. It looked slick but it didnt sound quite right

Ok thanks for the replies.

As it turns out, the laser etching company charges Tim £125 setup fees for new artwork. So that's out of the way.

Anyway, I decided in the meantime to go for Black Hawks, so definitely no covers!
