Wich volume pot for a Supermassive 90
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:10:20 AM »
Hi everyone,

I've recently acquired a Les Paul Jr.

I plan to put in a supermassive 90 but I'm wondering about the volume pot to go with (I don't like the response of the stock one).

Any advice on which value to choose? I would rather put a 500K given the spec of the pickup in order to keep the bright well balanced with the bottom end....

Thanks in advance guys

500k would be standard with a P-90, even though it's a single-coil pickup.

I believe vintage Juniors often had 500k volume and 250k tone, but nowadays they probably just use 500k for both.

(Welcome to the forum, by the way!  :D )
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Thanks for the answer and the welcome! :D

I'll toss a coin to choose between standard 500k pot and the BKP 550K  8)

The last two Gibson I bought (a  LP traditional and a LP Jr) came with 300K linear for volume and 500K audio for tone.

Apparently the BKP 550k pots are very good, but I haven't tried them yet.

You're right, I think Gibson use that 300k/500k setup on most guitars now.  I haven't bothered to look what's in mine (and one is a semi, so I'm not going to try to take the pots out!  )

What Junior have you got, by the way?  Singlecut or doublecut?  I'm a big fan of Jrs.  :D

This.
I am also a huge fan of juniors and I plan getting one as my next purchase and also fitting it with a super massive 90.

Dude! That's exactly what I want! Pelham Blue is beast and I've already got way to many sunburst guitars.

right thats it, the toys are out of the pram, I don't know you and already don't like you

I've been GASing for a Pelham LP jr for ages, but I'm poorer than a church mouse that's just had an enormous tax bill on the very day his wife ran off with another mouse; taking all the cheese.

I think that colour looks amazing on a Junior. Very tempting to buy one.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
