NAD + Re-housing
« on: May 17, 2012, 08:30:07 PM »
I've been shopping for a smaller but still kinda loud amplifier for about a month or so. I stumbled upon this nice little Randall LB50 combo for under 700$ CAD. really smoking deal.

since i thought the whole thing was 1) really heavy 2) i don't like my tubes so close to the speaker, i set it upon myself to build a head cabinet. my first attempt too!

overall. lots of fun. the amp's tone is also very nice, for heavy metal, has that nice jangly/clicky hear the strings through the drive type of tone.

i also salvaged piping and parts from old amplifiers i had laying around for the finishing touch, matching the looks with a  cabinet.

Thanks! it was a very fun experience. both from the woodworking and patience point of view. removing the piping from the valve junior cabinet was something of a meditative experience i'd say. so many damn staples.

it's definitely not perfect but it works for me and makes for a nice little story!

next step is buying a speaker that'll match up well with the lynchback speaker and turn that rig into a sweet little 2x12 rig with a leftover Imperia (an old tube amp from the 70's i think) cabinet i have here. the only thing i gotta do is replace the speaker mounting veneer with something that can hold 2 speakers.

I like the rustic vibe
Have a look at Lynch's own experiments making guitars here - similar vibe maybe just taken a lot further

Sweet!

and yes, as i bugged you in the PM's, i finally bought the amp :) the judge is nice and bright but that tone is perfect for the lower tuned approach i go for.

it was my first time ever working with wood dye. i learned quite a lot through this build process. might be looking to build the matching 2x12 from scratch just to have a similar finish!
