IT's in an EJ Strat
« on: June 04, 2012, 09:35:46 PM »
Well I got IT's this weekend and installed them in my EJ strat.  For some reason I didn't care for the tone compared to the EJ's.  I pulled them out and reinstalled the EJ's, sounds great.  I felt that I may not have set it up properly so I'm having my guitar tech friend reinstall them with a proper setup and see how they sound.  I want to love these pickups in my strat as an option to the EJ's, not necesarilly as better, EJ really got it right, just looking for something different, or maybe I should build a guitar around the IT's, we'll see.

The right height is important, scatterwound pickups are quite sensitive for that.
I also think your ears have to get used to the IT's, coming from EJ's.  So from fat, sweet and round you go to punchy, gritty, more trebly. Probably you need to adjust the amp too.
It could also be the case that the EJ's just fit that guitar perfectly.

EJ wouldn't put just any pickups in his guitar, you know...
