not sure if this is a re-necking candidate or whether a rather generous scarf joint could save the day.

opinions from our members with woodworking skills appreciated... (or anyone really, free-for-all...)

if I knew one end of a chissel from the other I'd be tempted by this, but I know it would end up in someone else's hands and would cost a fortune to put right.  bang a scratchplate on there to cover the neck rout (after filling it preferably), fix the headstock (or rather fashion a new one) and away you go - easy at that  :roll:

Thereby restoring (most of) the strength of the neck joint at the same time.

Would you re-use the original fretboard, since it's all there?  It would be nice to retain it.

I always think it's a shame when I see Juniors routed for neck pickups - if you want a Special, buy a Special!

(Not that I haven't made some very silly routing modifications myself over the years....  :oops: )

I've seen a couple of very sad cases where a front humbucker route has weakened the neck joint so much the neck's fallen off.

Yeah, one of the things I love about doublecut Juniors is the fact that you've got that long neck tenon extending way into the body, contributing so much to the tone.

OK, you could put a neck pickup in a singlecut Junior and no harm done - but I still don't like the idea!

I do that on my singlecuts too


Mainly for tone and strength but also because it lets me do this to the heel as usual

Oh, is that the completed Jr you've posted before?  I just assumed it was a new one in the early stages of construction.

No, I never saw that one "in the flesh", I think Twinfan saw it on a later visit.

So how much would one of those set me back? - raw wood, well, oiled or whatever so the wood is sealed.
