Blue Notes resurrect my Peerless
« on: June 07, 2012, 09:30:08 AM »
I got a Peerless Gigmaster SC a while ago and while it looks fantastic, plays superbly and even sounds really nice acoustically, it's a dog amplified, the stock pups are dull clean and just make a nasty buzzing noise overdriven. When I tried it, it was through a Blackstar amp and I realise now, it was the amp that sounded good, not the guitar.

I like the guitar so much I thought new pickups worth a try and having decided that, I thought I'd try a set of Bare Knuckle Blue Notes and replace all the electrics while I was at it.

So after a couple of days wrestling with the thing I finally got them in. What a difference! It's like the final piece of the puzzle and has produced a superb guitar. The Blue Notes sound powerful, musical and incredibly dynamic. I'm delighted with them and the Peerless that I was thinking of selling has become a keeper instantly.

I'm really surprised that Peerless skimp on the electrics, the old wiring was cheap modular rubbish and the stock Epi/BHK P90s frankly garbage. If they put decent stuff in as stock, I bet they'd sell a few more of them!

Gorgeous rig!

I can't see the picture unfortunately (I'll check it out later!), but good to hear some comment on the Blue Notes - there's been very little on the forum about the "new" P-90 models.  :D

Sweet. It's always a good feeling taking a guitar with great potential and meeting it!

A nice rig indeed !

Thanks for the information / review, as I have had a long standing dream of putting a BKP 'Halfnote' in the neck postion of a dedicated 1 pickup Jazz guitar.    Your description also echos the qualities of the Manhattan , albeit with a subtle diiference in the magnet of course.

Just when I thought I'd been finally cured of G.A.S ...
BKP Manhattans, Stormy Mondays,  Mules , Missisippi Queens , ( Alnico) Warpigs - and VHII Bridge.

Ooh, cool looking guitar!

I was expecting something Jazz-looking, but that's really quite Scotty Moore isn't it?

Thanks for you nice comments! It's been like getting a brand new guitar since I put the Blue Notes in.

Not sure about metal, but dial in a bit of dirt and it sure can rock!

I've often heard P90s described as 'versatile' and now I know what that means, this guitar does lovely chimey cleans, excels at blusey overdrive and of course that Scotty Moore rockabilly groove, all with that nice woody hollow body tone.

It's also my first guitar with a wiggle stick and I'm getting to love that now I'm playing it a lot.  My Tele feels a bit weird without one.

Very nice, I like the clear pickguard so you see the full shape of the pickups and the rest of the guitar
