New Audio Interface Day!
Although it's already been an expensive month for me, I simply couldn't stand having to deal with my fickle Speedio USB interface for my recording computer any more. It seriously hacks me off on at least a fortnightly basis and usually this ends with my recording mood and motivation / inspiration being completely sapped from me as I go through the arduous process of troubleshooting for the Nth time.
So I bit the bullet and ordered myself a Presonus Firestudio Mobile. Been told that the Mic preamps are the best on any interface for that money, and I would have to spend at least double to get much better preamp quality in an AI box. All the reviews I've read and all the people I know who own one say that they are the single best purchase they have made for their rigs on a budget.
I finally got it working this evening (after I rebuilt my recording machine to replace the old motherboard and add more RAM...it worked for a few days and then this evening the PSU fried! Replaced it with an old one I had hanging around). There was a two hour period where I had a proper "duh" moment, I couldn't figure out why there was no sound! The signal was going in and coming out (apparently) but my speakers were silent. I finally had to facepalm (massively) when I realised I had chosen the wrong type of output in the Firestudio's control panel! Two hours of swearing and threatening to throw things out of windows and it was a bloody tick-box I had missed, hah!
Anyway, finally managed to get it working but way too late to try out the mic preamps with some vocal tests, so did a quick recording of my cheapo Squier Jaguar Bass through my Pod, and I can already tell that the instrument inputs are a HUGE improvement on the old sound card! Massively so! So needless to say I can't wait to have a go at vocals at the earliest opportunity!
So, here is my Happy-Dance, self-congratulatory Bass Noodling. This is straight from the Pod into Cubase and no post-production / EQ etc...
