Anyone ever tried a Mesa F-series?
« on: February 12, 2006, 04:27:17 PM »
I found this thread on HC, it sounds like a really versatile amp. Anyone played one? Is it as good as these clips make out? I'm currently applying for a part time job, and if I get it, would like to save up for an amp that does better rock and metal tones than my fender. Its probably crazily expensive though, so when the time comes I'll probably get a Laney instead

You can get a Mesa F50 for just over a grand I think.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

i tried a mesa f30 a while ago- it was good but not amazing- i'd take an engl screamer over it (i tried them head to head), and it's about £200-£300 less (and the f50 is another £200 extra!).

But then, i just prefer the engl voicing.

I've played an F-50, but only briefly. The clean sounds were very good, which kind of surprised me for a Mesa. Not as crisp as a Fender - thicker and warmer - but very more-ish.

Same as Dave, i'll take a Screamer instead, cheaper, better rock/metal tones imho.

Havent tried any either, but as other people say... 1000GBP (whereas its 1/2 of this in the US) sounds like a bad deal vs an ENGL or Laney TT50/LC50
