Bermondsey/London
« on: June 13, 2012, 01:55:35 PM »
Yo! I'm coming down to the Big Smoke with my band to do a wee bit of recording this time next month. Anyone know of any decent pubs in the SE16 area? We want to do a night of boozing!

I'm assuming it's a shitee area? Last time we were down we had a lovely time in Haggerston. Taking the piss out of hipsters and chatting up a mini Katy Perry. WAHOO!

haha! yeah east london isn't far. Depending on where you are Bermondsey you can get on the overground at rotherhithe, surrey quays, or canada water. I've walked around Bermondsey and it's pretty grim. I've also walked around when everyone is on their way to Millwall FC. Worrying. You won't be that far from Tower Bridge either. I have no idea about Bermondsey pubs.

Pure hipster-ville man.

I live in New Cross, which is south east. And there is a pub called The New Cross Inn that has bands playing. I think Discharge were due to play there recently. It's pretty small. New Cross itself is pretty small though. In east... I have no idea. It's hit & miss. Most places I know are going to be full of hipster types. Old Blue Last, The Macbeth. They're around Old Street/Shoreditch.

In Soho there is always 12 Bar and Crowbar, and Garlic & Shots. I generally just end up at places where bands are playing or where my mates like to go. Sam Smiths owned pubs... pretty cheap.

Haha! I've just found that a punk band I've got some friends in are playing at the New Cross Inn on the Saturday we're down there! We'll probably go down to that :) Nice one

word!

If you go Chick Chicken just outside the door and down the hill a tiny bit (you can't really miss it) you can get pizza with 4 toppings for £3! BOOM!

Old Blue Last, The Macbeth. They're around Old Street/Shoreditch.

I played at the Old Blue Last a couple of weeks ago, seemed like a nice little pub.  I didn't get a chance to venture any further, so that's the extent of my knowledge of East London.

I've played the old blue last a few times and been to see bands there a few times. I don't really like it to be honest. Something about that place just makes me uneasy.

I've only ever played two gigs in London and one was in a cellar (we were told we were too loud. If its too loud, yer too old!) and the other was in a flat in Haggerston. Where we could be heard from the train station...

My favourite brewery is in Bermondsey:

http://thekernelbrewery.com/

They're open for the buying of booze directly at the weekend. They're in an area with a lot of other good food and drinks stalls and places to sit and eat/drink your purchases. That's a good way to while away a few hours in Bermondsey.

I must say that being one who hails originally from New Cross (albeit Telegraph Hill) - to see NX put above Bermondsey shows how the place has come up in the world since I left...  :D

I've spent a few years living in New Cross.
I find it suits me. There are a lot of art students because of Goldsmiths and the high street has some good food places and the usual little shops. You do get a mix of folk around there for whatever reason. I mean you get the tame students and you get the mentalists. I'm not sure where they come from! As safe as I feel New Cross is, it is still the only place where someone has threatened to stab me in a serious way. knock on wood!
