P90 to match Apig ?
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:36:52 PM »
so loving the A pig in my tele style . have a duncan 59 in the neck(with a  mag swap)  and I like it  but tax time is comin up and I usually get a little back so spend a little something on gear so I'm thinking of swapping the 59n out for a BKP

looking at the neck range the idea of a HB sized P90 it's looking good to me. never owned a P90 before so its something new . a neck PU to me is all about nice fat cleans . I do a couple solo's high gain on the neck but I tend to play neck for cleans and low to mid  OD and bridge for high gain

I'm thinking the stockholm to match the Apig due to its eq and looks hotter in spec .

will it keep up with the A pig ? If not a P90 which neck PU's are matched will with a Apig ?

I have a 'Black Dog' wound MQ to match my APig in an Explorer.  I actually didn't ask for  that wind, it is what BK did as I ordered them as a set.  It's a lovely match, nice thick clean lead tones that can morph into harmonic feedback while sustaining the note.
So many pickups, so little time

I have no experience with either but there's always the Pig 90, which is a P90 version of the Warpig. From what I've read and heard (sound clips) it has fat (almost too fat to my ears) cleans. It has output to rival the Warpig Neck at 15 DC in the neck. It'd match very nicely. Though to be fair the Supermassive and then the Stockholm would be my second and third choices in your situation. Again that's with no experience but from what it's like to my ears online.

thanks for that. I was sticking to the HB sized P90's necks as its going in a tele style scratch plate set up . Can I use std P90's without modification to a tele scratch plate ?

If I recall correctly Tim himself recently stated that on this very forum that he is willing (if you ask real nice and humbly) to make P90 versions of HSP90 pickups and vice versa as it takes rather little modification in fitting them to the cover.
I think he explicitly cited the Pig90, Stockholm and Supermassive.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid
