Unpotted stormy monday in 175 autumn leaves
« on: June 23, 2012, 02:17:48 PM »
Sorry for choosing possibly the most cheesy standard ever, but there was a bit of discussion about these in the context of jazz guitars. Haven't recorded anything for ages so I did this very quickly, and it's full of f**k ups but it gives you an idea of the tone of these pickups in a 175.

Truly excellent !  :D

Your technical fluency and professional recording standards - have certainly inspired me to raise my game considerably .  :)

It is also great to hear the unpotted version of the Stormy Mondays  - and in a higher quality guitar. The sound is lighter and brighter - and a touch drier than I would associate with a Henriksen / Polytone e.t.c and tighter than a Blackface Twin. I therefore must ask the inevitable 'Nerd' question of what your recording set up was - as it presented your work in glorious '3D'.  8)

Thanks for posting ( both versions ) - an inspiration for me to learn from, and a great incentive for me to to spend more time in the woodshed !

Thanks guys, appreciate it!

The setup is gibson 175, all neck pickup, controls on the guitar on almost 10 both tone and vol-> carr viceroy on 7w mode with treble almost completely off, everything else at 12 o clock. Mic is SM57, recorded straight into garageband, no fx added

Strings are TI swings, 13s

Cheers

+1 I had a listen and it sounds really great, very warm tone but has a nice brightness to it as well
