Warpig Neck / Take 2 ( With brighter E.Q )
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:56:57 PM »
Forgive me for posting a 'Second take' of this tune, I promise you not to attempt a 3rd .

I wanted to ( hopefully ) achieve two things :

1 ) Make a slightly more flowing rendition.

2 ) Prove that  this ( neck ) pickup does not only do  dark / even darker and  "none darker   "   tones. As such I have just left the tone and volume controls on the guitar around '9' instead of '8'.  As the B.K.P. faithful will know, that actually makes a difference with these pickups.  :)

I would be grateful therefore, if you would have a quick listen to this second attempt - and tell me which of the two versions is the one you feel would best present the Warpig ,  in it's application to this sort of stuff.

Thanks.  :)

Can't tell for sure which one would "best present the Warpig" - both sound great to me, and the first one has kind of the archetypical "dark/warm" Jazz tone. This being said, I'd probably vote for the second one since it better shows the WP neck can sound quite clearer than you (well, I for one) would expect while still having this "warm" rounded quality. Great tone and (as far as I'm concerned) great playing on both tracks anyway, I whish I could get something similar out of a guitar. Once again I'm not much into Jazz guitar but to me both sound just like Jazz guitar should.

Thank you for your kind and very useful comments BigB.  :)  It helps me see that both 'flavours' of Warpig clip remain valid, and to best represent how it sounds, it may be best to listen to both.

I also wanted to mention to mongey - that these clips were of course made using the neck Alnico Warpig - and I just wanted to make sure that the distinction was made clear, as I would not want to create a misunderstanding that the Ceramic Pigs would sound the same . Also I surmise that the 'polite' screw poles might be producing a less Bassy response that the raised bolt head tops ?

I appreciate the time you took to listen to the clips and comment Gentlemen. :)

Cheers !

doesnt the alnico or ceramic option only refer to the brigde? I think all pig necks are alnico. On the product page the option is only listed on the bridge and neck is listed as alnico

Sorry mate, you are absolutely correct - I did not word my reply very well.    When I saw that you were having a seven string made with a C-Pig, and you were 'not sure of the neck pickup' -  I was not sure if that meant you were going totally Brootal , and thinking of having the neck made ceramic as a very unique custom build.  As I am very new to the Warpig, and usually swim around in the warm safe waters of the B.K.P. Vintage range,  I thought it might be perhaps best to re-iterate that the clips were done with the A-Pig neck.  Thanks for pointing that one out - and thereby clarifying the matter for anyone reading .  :)

Cheers !

Great mellow playing! Makes me wanna sit in my armchair and smoke the pipe whilst having a good thinkabout. :) Also; thanks a lot for this clip - it really shows the softer capabilities of the pig. Who would've thought a warpig could sound this cuddly and sweet. :) I'm in the process of getting a warpig + a pickup not yet known, but after hearing this my concerns about the cleans are gone and getting a set, like i've been recommended, seems like a novel idea.

Likewise!  I'd been planning to put either a Stormy Monday or a Mule into the neck of the 7-string archtop I've got coming, but given that I'd like to use it for doomy jazz-rock as well as more traditional sounds, maybe I need to be thinking about a Warpig.  Decisions, decisions....

Be sure to post some of that doomy jazz-rock - i would love to hear it! I actually went for the Supermassive in the neck.  It compliments the Warpig beautifully. It sounds really nice on its own and they also mix really well. Kudos to Ben for the suggestion there. The man sure knows his tones! :)

What kind of amp are you using?

My neck Warpig can't get anything even remotely close to this through the clean channel on my Peavey 6534+ - although I think my Cold Sweat neck would struggle too through that amp
