Question about wiring incorrectly
« on: June 30, 2012, 10:27:08 PM »
Hey everyone.  First post.  I had a quick question about wiring things incorrectly.  If using 4 conductor pickups, it's suggest that the green and white wires be soldered together if they aren't being used.  What would happen if those two wires were left disconnected?  I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot his own installation, but he's doing a very poor job describing his wiring to me.

He says his Aftermaths sound weak and thin after he got them installed by a tech.  I'm just trying to think of possible wiring problems.

Pretty sure they just wouldn't work if he left green and white unjoined.  They will have been soldered together and wrapped in heatshrink out of the box.

If they're sounding weak and thin there's a chance he may have phase reversal going on.  The red should be connected to the lug on the pot and the black and bare grounded to the back of the pot.

I've read a ton of stories about techs just using the wiring colour code that was previously used with the old pups or using the colour codes for Seymour Duncan or others.   The SD ones in particular are always showing up on forums!

Maybe if he could send you a photo of the electrics and you could post it?
