« on: July 04, 2012, 06:13:51 AM »

What kind of music do you play?
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)

I've been trying a few on my McRosie, and RiffRaff in bridge and VHII in neck seem to bring the best out of the guitar.

Yep, for good all round rock tones Riff Raffs or VHIIs would get my vote  :)

I'd say anything bkp would be an instant improvement
but we have no idea what you're looking for
if you wanna keep the same output and tone ballpark of the pickups you have, you'll probably enjoy a holy diver or rebel yell set...

but I would listen to hunter
you should check his videos and soundclips
he does a lot of experimenting and share a lot with us
there's an old brazilian saying that's something like: "kills the snake and shows the stick"
I wish I could have documented all my humble experience like he does

Just depends on the tones you're after. Besides the mentioned RR and VHII even Mules will provide everything from deep cleans, bluesy stuff, classic rock to hardrock.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I think you will find an improvement but which to go for depends on what sound are you after? I too have VHII's in my McRosie. they sound great.

thanks guys!
I play all around rock and hard and some cleans tones too, i think like any normal guitar player, who plays only one style?
I think I will try the VH II or RR in the bridge

For all around rock and cleans that is a great choice. Also the VHII neck pickup splits so well, much better than any other HB I have tried.

By the way, I am now using Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Strings on the McRosie, I just love what they do tone and playability wise.

OK, dumb/pedantic question time:

I've often read that the VHII splits well.... but as we know the VHII is wound with a big offset between the two coils (bridge anyway, I'm not so sure about the neck).

That being the case, does one coil "split" better than the other, and if so which one?

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I think it's the slug Phil, the one that's usually used for splits.  Which would make sense, as that's the closest to a single coil in build specs (slug magnets).

I don't know, I just do the simple split schematic, I think it's white wire to ground or something, just go with the flow, it sounds cool :)
