how about a black dog? sounds a lot like the diver, but it's warmer and a little darker
same type of thick and dense midrange, but a sweeter top and a bit less grinding upper mids

Well I for one do not think the HD is grinding or upper mid heavy in my Strat, so I think an even darker sounding pickup wouldn't be what I'm looking for in my LP.

Afterall my LP sounds like a LP, but a tad brighter...so I guess even sweeter topend wouldn kinda muffle the sound?

it's not a muffled sounding pickup by any means
unless you have a truly dark sounding guitar

here's a poorly recorded sloppy jam with my band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msmA1RTwjaw
guitar is a '78 greco (maple neck), black dog in the bridge, cold sweat in the neck
clean rhythm guitar is a prs mccarty with a miracle man in the bridge

you should check this guy videos and clips with the black dog

That poorly recorded sloppy jam is actually really nice. Like it.

It really doesn't sound that much different from the HD.

glad you like it
we were just noodling

this is from our first ep:
http://www.myspace.com/colidium/music/songs/alterego-torto-83960336
rhythms were recorded with a prs mccarty with a cold sweat in the bridge and an early 70's les paul custom with the black dog in the bridge (two tracks only, but won't remember which side is which... you can tell which one is the cold sweat prs by the extra top end sizzle)
main lead is the black dog

http://www.myspace.com/colidium/music/songs/bendito-fruto-83960367
the main solo on this one was the black dog
not sure about the other lead tracks, but it could be it as well
rhythms recorded as the previous one (intro was definitely the cold sweat)

I had a holy diver in the same lp custom a week before recording that ep
they did sound very close, but the diver definitely had an extra upper mid spice

That sounds very nice actually oO

Allright, main candidates are the Diver and the Black dog for now.

Back from the dead,

I went ahead and ordered the Divers last week. They arrived today and I put them into said Les Paul.
Now, I don't know who said PAFs are the ultimate in tone, and I don't know how the guys at Bareknuckle Pickups do this,
but I'm in awe.

Whoever said HDs and Les Pauls don't work is a fool. Oh my god this is just perfect for about anything. They are stellar on clean, they perform awesome for Rock and Hard Rock rhythm guitar and the lead tone is pure heaven. Seriously, I already have Holy Divers in my Strat. But a difference THIS huge...no way I would have expected this. They're even frickin better in the Lester! They burn in a fat, raunchy, aggressive manner and yet sing so beautifully.

A big thanks to Tim and everyone at BKP aswell as you guys who made me decide on them. Thanks!

Allright, you gotta help me with a weird grounding issue here.

The usual thing, I have that grounding hum and when I touch any metal part it instantly stops humming. Turning the volume pots down increases the ground hum and decreases the actual pickup noise.

I'm using 50s wiring and all braided wires here. Where is my problem? From my understanding the ground connection of any of the components is okay when the hum gets better If I touch it.
Following that logic the switch is okay, the humbuckers are, the bridge is okay, the jack, too.

Can't be a shielding thing, can it?

If your guitar is already bright, and you want to keep the organic, vintage feel, the Abraxas would be an excellent choice. It's like a high powered Mule. It has a nice even response tonally. The mids are very detailed and the highs are sweet and open without being too much. It really helped my SG that was way too bright. It tamed the jangle and really brings out the tone of the wood. Very "alive".
