We were supposed to have a double-header today, first a shortened bout of two 20-minute halves with teams made up of skaters who had newly passed their minimum skills, and then the main event with South West Angels of Terror going up against Plymouth City Roller Girls.
We got almost to the end of the first half of the first game and realised there were several leaks in the venue's roof. We ripped up the track and tried to re-position it to avoid puddles but there were way too many!
So, yeah, rain stops play at an indoor venue! 0_o
Head Ref made a safety call and stopped the game from continuing! What a shoddy venue!
From the "sound man" perspective it was a double whammy for me today, the venue said we could use their PA system.
"All good" thinks me...
PA system is a DEATH TRAP! Seriously hazardous! I got some of it working but bloody hell, whoever wired it all together is a complete moron. Besides which most of the phono leads and speaker cables were non-functional. In the end I got one speaker working, and even then only tentatively so, I had to bend the cable in certain places to get it working and had to gaffer tape it there so it wouldn't move. Someone had hacked up all the power cables and soldered / screwed / JOINED SOMEHOW...ANYHOW to one junction box with a "main plug" coming out of it. What a joke!
So I will be hiring a P.A and microphones next time (if we get that venue again in dry weather).
Waste of a day! *Harrumph*
