It seems like Blackguard Flat 50's has not enough DC res. to make a pickup beefy and punchy as many humbuckers do. I wonder if flat 50's is grindy when there's much gain. cause I don;t like that grindy-ice picking distortion when I play power chords.
But I have no idea how those pickups will sound like, since I haven't used any of BK's product.
Are you waiting for Flat 50's? please post it how it's like
Blackguard Flat 50's has higher DC (10.6) than both Brown Sugars (7.6) and Boss (8.2), but less than Piledriver (13.1).
And also DC is not direct synonimus to output - look at new Blackhawk humbucker, pretty low DC and pretty high output.
Once I had a Kinman Hx85 single coil in my Strat bridge - DC was about 11, and it was by the far best Strat bridge single coil that I've tried, beefy enough to play even progressive metal, and without "icepick".
Brown Sugars are quite bright and could sound icepicky I think.
Tim said, that Flat 50's don't have icepick qualities, they are rounded slightly in the top end, but retains cut, with a lot of bass and midrange. You always can ask Tim - he knows all about his pickups :)
My pickups now in customs, so I will get them in the start of next week I think.
