BKP Bass pickups

I was wondering, what do the jazz bass bkp pickups look like? Also are they suitable for use with active curcuitry? I like the versitility of active but i thought it might ruin the nice tone of the j bass...

Our Jazz coils look just like, and are the same spacing as standard Fender coils. At the moment we wind them pretty much to the customers spec. So you tell us what you want and we will deliver!
Personally I cant stand active bass pickups, Ive taken them out of my Warwicks and replaced them with ours and the tone is so much clearer and has alot more "character" plus they respond very well to different styles of playing whether it be finger style, slap or pick. Actives seem to colour and sterilize the tone too much for me. I cnat see a problem with running them with an active circuit, although again I think it is better to make any adjustments in tone at the amp.

I've played a set of BKP bass pickups in a 70s Jazz, really great tone. You don't even miss them being active, they're punchy and clear with great tone. I didn't get the urge to twiddle knobs as they sounded so good!

THey will work with any active circuit designed to work with passive pickups. I know a lot of bass players like to have the versatility of onboard EQ so I can see where you're coming from, but do try them in passive mode!

How about P-bass pickups, i have a 1976 fender p-bass thats in need of a revival, would new pickups show in improvement over the stock fender ones? (assuming that you do actually make P-Bass pickups).

Yep there are some P-Bass coils too, I think Mr Pig has a set. As far as I know it's the same deal with the bass pickups as the guitar ones - vintage correct parts=great tone. You can get a bit of a overwind for more mid growl if you want, or underwind for more open tone.  :)

I have a 1966 P-Bass that didn't give me the sound of the 63 P-Bass I had years ago.  I spoke to Tim about this and he suggested that I got a slightly overwound pickup, and it really nails the sound.  It also can cut through and do a JJ Burnell Peaches tone.

You would definantly get an improvment in tone, they are very warm and open but still have a fair punch. Ive got a set in a P bass and I love the tone, are great for pushing a valve amp!

Hmmm this is interesting stuff. My beloved 1976 Precision could be a candidate.

They are well worth the investment, The 70's Fender basses are notorius for bad tone due to the change they made in the coil winidngs. I think you would be amazed by the transformation. Some of the top session guys like Phil Mulford and Rodger Innis use our Jazz sets (Phil was in the backing band for the X factor!)

Oh dear, more choices, what are you guys doing to me?  That sounds interesting Steve. Mine has always , to me sounded pretty good but with the faith that I have in BKP, I have to decide now whether my 2nd Strat or the "Pressy" gets done( plus help my son with his horrendous debts!).

Go for the bass!  No, really if you record a bit and like playing bass, the improvement is dramatic.  I wasn't playing my Precision, and now I love the sound.  Think of all the classic P-bass stuff, and you can get it.
