Similar Pups Different Voicing ?
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:43:41 AM »

Hi all.
Just get to know BN pups.. and were looking in to the forum for the last couple of days. You guys are most helpful and informative.

I have some questions regarding to how BN (or any) voicing their pups.
For instance:
If we take the Holydiver Neck pups that shows
Alnico V
And 7.9 on the reading
And compare it to the VHII Neck Pups that shows exactly that same
Alnico V
And 7.9 on the reading
Can I figure that they are the same pup?
I think their not.. (I don’t know for sure of course) but, how they do build differently? Technical speaking on the making.
How does any and BN in particular voicing them different from each other?

Thank you very much from advance.
A.

They are not the same pickup. The difference is in the wire gauge and insulation (VHII is 42 awg plain enamel whereas the HD neck is 42.5 awg polysol), resulting in the VHII having more turns on the coil, and the magnet (VHII has the long magnet whereas the HD has the shorter magnet).

I have both pickups but have not tried them in the same guitar but I would expect the VHII to have more output than the HD neck.

Cheers Stephan

EDIT: Wow, just noticed that this was my post no. 1000.

Wow, that was fast.
Thanks Stephan for your informative reply.
That subject is highly interesting.

BTW, which wire BN put on the HD bridge?
I guess it must be 43(?) at least..

Thanks again!

p.s – its karma that you reached your 1000 to my one ;)

Congrats! No. 1000 was a good one!

I think the HD is 43 AWG plain enamel.

it's 44 awg polysol wire as far as I remember (like the painkiller)
not 100% sure, though
