bridge pup for rg7321 (7 string)
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:17:57 PM »
going to be grabbing one of these on the cheap to goof around with/start a dumb mosh "studio project" and the stock pickups are 100% Yucksville. im going to be aiming for something like the acacia strain so i need something tight, clear and thick with monster palm mutes/pinch harmonics. ill be tuning to g# probably so itll have to be able to handle low tunings. thoughts? its basswood with a maple neck and a rosewood board by the way.

Ahh Ibanez stock pups...how they suck.

Anyways, for monster palm mutes and pinch harmonics the Painkiller springs to mind for me, dat ting brings a brutalz.

Thing is most of the regular forum guys are not that into extreme styles (me neither), so the answers will not be as great as asking for classic rock PUs.

I am no expert in the field but IŽll try to offer some info non the less.

The AM is very dry, super tight and middy. Does not really reliver the monster palm mutes you wish. Amazing for tech metal and some versions of modern rock, but not for you I guess (does handle low tunings very well though).

Take the AM make it fatter, more agressive and basecally put it on steroids and bathsalts and you got the Painkiller.

C-Bomb could work too, it is said to be very 90s metal though. Dunno if that is for you.

C-pig might also work, certainly will be monster. I would in my mind maybe have some reservations about it at such low tunings (too much bottom end), but I hear it works suprisingly well.

So I would guess Painkiller with the Pig being the runner up, but not too closely. But again, guess is the keyword.

You can also drop a mail to the BKP customer service and either Tim or Ben will give you a much better recomendation than I can.

the painkiller isn't any fatter than the aftermath
just more upper mids and a little more grind
the aftermath is more center mid focused and slightly more controlled

monster palm mutes and pinch harmonics is pretty much what the miracle man does better than most of the other models
and it sounds really huge in lower tunings

Acacia Strain I'd say would be Nailbomb or Miracle Man. By the way they're described.

it won't
in such a low tuning what you're picking is mostly low mids, and the miracle man is plenty of low mids
